Pack hounds are magnificent creatures, selectively bred for cry, nose, drive, intelligence and devotion to their master. However, after a lifetime of living and working in a pack and enjoying the rigors of outdoor sport, hounds will develop a mindset different from the average domestic pet.
SHFT understands the special needs of hounds that thrive within a group and provide years of sporting loyalty to their masters. Among SHFT’s aim is providing these hounds retirement equally satisfying to their hunting life.
Alternatively, some hound puppies lack the instinct to hunt with a pack but would make a wonderful pet to a loving family. SHFT supports efforts to place these animals.
Re-homingAt retirement age, SHFT helps older pack hounds make the transition from kennel and field to domestic family life. Veterinary services such as spay and neutering, dental care and vaccinations prior to rehoming are also a focus of SHFT.
Leishmaniasis Disease Until recent years, Leishmaniasis disease was contained within the UK and Europe. Now, diagnosed in the US the disease has the ability to devastate entire packs.
Testing, treating and quarantining effected dogs is both a lengthy and expensive process that SHFT works to support.
